Joe Biden traded up to a C7?

I think he’s still got the T/A.

Man, Richard Avedon saw a Jolly! Lucky guy.

I feel like the first photo is a brilliant example of Ansel Adams' attention to detail and use of natural lighting.

Very artistic use of reflections. That’s why the guy is a legend.

The Onion’s version of Joe Biden always cracked me up, when I was a kid, my grandmother’s next door neighbor who owned an asphalt company was exactly like that. Even down to the gold medallion, washing his Trans Am shirtless in the driveway, and blasting Cheap Trick. Guy must have at least been in his 50s in the ‘80s, so some sort of midlife crisis, I guess.

Chrome wheels - check

Parked across two spaces - check

Driven by a shirtless boomer- check.

Looks fine to me.

True fact- it took him 13 hours to get the windshield reflection and glare just right for that Corvair shot.

I think every neighborhood had a guy like that in the 70s and 80s. It was a rule or something.

Also the childless yuppie couple with a Golden Retriever and his and hers  BMWs.

That couple didn’t  move in until the mid 80s, but yeah.

Fiat 60 0 with factory I think bodywork modifications. Those are very uncommon. Four door Corvair is lovely as well

I see you led off with our favorite daily driven  Corvair. Where did you see the Jolly? I’ve never seen one of those in person.

Of course! These are older photos, it’s really just a shitpost to play around with this stupid photo credit requirement. But I love that Corvair

The Jolly was at a gas station in downtown Hinsdale, right across from the Metra station.

That Corvair is a true daily driver in the suburbs of Chicago. Both shop-teacher and I see it regularly.

The Jolly is cool- I’ve only seen it once, but I’m sure it lives in the town next to me.

I was just joking about the picture posted, I’m sure Mapplethorpe is decent enough. I am partial to Aaron Brimhall these days.

Some good stuff in that link!

By the way, do you ever see a 68-69 Nova coupe that’s about the same color as the Corvair? I see that car all  the time going south on 83 in the morning.

No, I avoid 83 like the plague during rush hour.

I recognized the Corvair. Most classic dailys around here belong to VW nuts.

Was the Jolly 500 or 600 based?

Kinja'd!!! WilliamsSW > Who is the Leader - 404 / Blog No Longer Available

Kinja'd!!!1

Yeah, I’ve posted pics of that Corvair a few times, and I think shop-teacher has, too.

Apparently some Jollys were 500s and some were 600s.  They're rare and shockingly pricey.

That one appears to be a 600 based one. Strange. I also always welcome Corvair content.

Smart man.  But it's my best route, so I take it from 55th street up to at least 290 every day, then back. Bleah.  Though I do see some interesting cars on it.

I’m sure you’re right on the Jolly. I don’t know them well.

Yes, same on the Corvair!

Yeah, for you that is the best way. All I have to do is get from Villa Park to north Elmhurst. I go the long way up to Lake St, so I can just drive right over 83 like it's not even there.

That’s the worst stretch of 83, between Roosevelt and North Avenue too.  North or south of there, it’s fine.  Down by me, it’s an expressway for a few mile stretch (and they finished the construction last fall).

Oh, and you should recognize the location of the Cartier-Bresson photo above! (it’s exiting 83 North, waiting to turn left and go west on Lake St.)

Yeah, between Oakbrook mall and North Ave route 83 is a shit-show. When we were at peak shutdown, I was able to ride my scooter down that stretch at 4:00 pm on a weekday, and there wasn't another car within 800 feet of me. It was surreal.

That stretch is in lousy shape too.  The hump going over Roosevelt is ridiculous going south.

Yeah it is. Bumps like that make a Raptor seem like a sensible choice. Do you ever take North Ave over 355? The transitions from the road to the bridge are atrocious. The curve of the bridge and the curve of the road leadin g to it don’t match at all.
